The bitter melons trellis had half-collapsed. The string had become too wet and broken under the weight of the vines and fruit. Mum straightened the pole and I picked the remaining fruits. They’re all a little bit bashed and bruised though.
I harvested the remaining Jack-be-littles and cut the mid-sized green gourd. It’s like a curling stone. I’m not sure how useful the biggest one will be, but I’ll probably harvest it at the weekend so as to finally get my family photo taken.
The last tomatoes have been picked and so the plants can go on the compost next time. I imagine I’ll get some more volunteer plants next year from dropped fruits.
We picked a bunch of apples and the tree is still heaving. The apples still seem reticent to come off the tree, but the flavours of those picked are getting better and better.
