I thought I’d look silly coming back through the village with a mostly-empty trug, so I didn’t take it with me when I walked down to the plot. But then I had to call for a lift for the return, because the plastic bags I had with me clearly weren’t going to survive the journey with the weight of the harvest – which included the first 2 big carrots. A real achievement to have finally grown “proper” carrots.

On the inedible side of things, the gourd foliage is now dying back and the little dark green ones are now getting a bit of orange colour.
