I made first weeding visit of the new year. The unknown seedlings in the front bed are now identified – they’re the cornflowers that I’d sown last year. Hurray! I probably started with the most difficult bit of weeding, getting the chickweed out from among the cornflower seedlings and replanting what I could of the latter to spread them out. As I went, I cut a few bits of grass edging and tufts. I saw my first few slugs, which went into the weed bucket.

All around the front edges there are lots of gladioli bulbs coming up. Looks like I’ll have some reasonable success with my bulbs.
