I took a break from the plot last weekend, all the while willing the grass not to suddenly spring up again before I got down there to take advantage of its shortness. Fortunately it had obeyed my wish. We uncovered the slim potato bed to spread the manure and then covered it up again. Meanwhile Mum was weeding the tomato bed, which was next to be manured and covered. I’ve worked out that one bag of manure covers roughly 10-12 sq ft with a good layer.

It was just a short morning shift, as Family were on their way, so we pulled up a few carrots and – because it’s Apple Day- also picked the remaining apples. Most of them have been pre-enjoyed by one thing or another, so I’m not expecting to get much from them!
