I uncovered the onion bed again and planted alternate rows of white and red onions – Stuttgarter Giant and Red Baron respectively. As they grow, I guess they’ll gradually reveal that my lines didn’t end up dead straight, but I guess we’re going for the rustic look. Quite a number of the red onions didn’t feel particularly firm and some looked a bit suspect to me, so the front row ended up being half white half red.
I cut some more areas of grass with the shears and banged in the first length of wooden edging. Even the smallest height of 6” is quite high, but once the beds fill up with plants again it’ll look more to scale.
One more bit of progress: my working copy of this year’s bed plan is now hanging up inside the shed in a plastic sleeve
