The first set of runner beans went out today, planted at the feet of the cane wigwam. They’re a nice splash of green in the plot.

My nieces came down for another visit and I was able to show them the pears and plums forming on their respective trees. What a nice thing to have inherited on taking over the plot; I don’t think I would have ever thought of planting fruit trees myself.

The girls helped me plant some of the perennials I’d bought at the nursery, crumbling the earth back around the plants. One of the marigolds I grew from seed has flowered, but it’s hardly a prize specimen.

I’m finding far fewer slugs now and the odd one that turns up just gets “assalted”.
