Somehow we cut and dug a whole new bed today. The square courgette bed that was set to overlap a little where the compost heap used to stand finally had to be done so that the courgettes could go in. Fortunately the soil under the grass turned out to be pretty much the lovely stuff that’s in the front flower bed, rather than the awful clay that is elsewhere.

So the courgettes went into the new 5′ square and I also planted out 4 festival squash plants in the middle bed. Let’s hope they get going and add a bit of life to the plot.
